PharmTox alumni are leaders in healthcare, academia, industry, entrepreneurship, government, and law. The Pharmacology and Toxicology Alumnus of the Year award, sponsored by the UW–Madison Pharmacy Alumni Association (PAA), honors an alum whose exceptional professional achievements have brought distinction to themselves, credit to UW–Madison, and benefit to their vocational community and/or residential community (e.g., town, city, state), in any career field.

White is the director of the Innovation Capabilities Center of Excellence at SC Johnson, a company he’s been with for 25 years.

2024: John Davis (BS ’90)
Davis (BS ’90) is a senior vice president at Dyne Therapeutics and currently oversees the preclinical development of new therapeutics for rare muscle diseases that have no approved treatment options
2023: Patrick Dowling
Dowling (BS ’87) is a pulmonary and critical care physician at UW Health and the medical director of clinical documentation integrity at UnityPoint Health–Meriter.
2022: Allison Gardner
Gardner (BS ’99) is senior vice president of educational strategy and content at Med-IQ, which provides continuing education to doctors, nurses, and pharmacists on clinical and risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement.
2021: Peter Langenstroer (BS ’87)
Langenstroer (BS ’87) is the director of urologic oncology at MCW and serves on cancer committees at Froedtert Hospital and the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.
2020: Tracy Laabs
Laabs (BS ’01) is the chief development officer at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering and has extensive research experience, covering neuroscience, neurotechnology, molecular biology, physiology, human performance, and regenerative medicine.
2019: Gavin Arteel (BS ’93)
Arteel (BS ’93) is professor and associate chief for basic science in the University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and the Pilot and Feasibility Core director of the Pittsburgh Liver Research Center.
2018: Jack Vanden Heuvel (BS ’86)
Vanden Heuvel (BS ’86) is founder and chief scientific officer of INDIGO Biosciences and professor at Penn State University, researching molecular toxicology and nutrigenomics. He also has the distinction of being the PharmTox program’s first graduate.
