Ed Portillo Named Gold Status Fellow

Ed Portillo pioneered a pharmacist-driven service to improve the health of veterans with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), called COPD CARE (coordinated access to reduce exacerbations). For his innovative service, which has reduced 30-day hospital readmissions from 18.4 percent to 0 percent, the Veterans Health Administration is honoring Portillo as a Gold Status Fellow and is providing support to expand COPD CARE nationally in VA clinics.
