Courtney Koeberl (BS ’23, PharmD ’25): “As I close this incredible chapter, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Pharmacy for the best four years of my life. I’m especially thankful for the fast track program, which allowed me to earn my Doctor of Pharmacy degree and reach this milestone at the age of 24.
UW–Madison gave me more than just an education. It gave me endless opportunities, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable experiences. Some of my favorite memories were made in the CRoME lab, and I will always be grateful to the professors, classmates, and family who supported me throughout this journey. A special thank you to Evan Slonac (PharmD ’25), whom I met in pharmacy school and is now my soon-to-be husband.
Throughout it all, Walgreens has been my foundation. I started as a technician in high school, and I’ve worked there every step of the way. I breathe, sleep, and practically live at Walgreens — it’s truly become a second home. I’m proud to have achieved my dream of becoming a staff pharmacist and giving back to the community that raised me.
Thank you, UW–Madison SOP, for shaping me into the pharmacist and person I am today.”
Michelle Wu (PharmD ’25): “After graduating from the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy, I am excited to continue my pharmacy career in Madison, Wisconsin, through the completion of a PGY1&2 residency in medication systems and operations administration and leadership at UW Health! I am eager to continue cultivating and exploring my passion for leveraging data and technology to optimize patient-centered care and pharmacy operations.”

Zachary Miller (PharmD ’17) Greetings Pharmacy School Classmates,
Much time has passed since graduating in 2017, so it was time for a quick update. Let me spotlight my professional, personal, and volunteer details. Professionally, I began my career as a pharmacist for a small grocery chain in northern Wisconsin. Not long into my career, I was exposed to a leadership role during the manager’s maternity leave and have been looking forward since. A part-time position at a central Wisconsin health system allowed my foot in the door. After career climbing and a few pharmacy transitions, I am currently in regional pharmacy leadership for Aspirus Health. My role has included many hats, including assisting our specialty pharmacy, which was URAC accredited last fall, and becoming the first pharmacist for the organization to receive fellowship status through the American College of Healthcare executives. In addition to all of that work, I just completed my master’s degree in healthcare administration. As a student, I was involved with the local Kappa Psi chapter and have continued with the organization as a graduate brother. I previously served as historian for the WI Grad chapter and was elected its most recent regent this past fall. I am excited to keep the organization moving forward while supporting its members and students.
Personally, I married fellow UW SOP alum Macy Porlier (PharmD ’19) in September 2023. We enjoy adventuring locally and abroad. Our most recent adventure was to Thailand, where I met back up with a couple of pharmacists who were fellow students during my APPE abroad in 2017. Macy and I are proud of our pharmacy student support via The Miller-Porlier Pharmacy Excellence Scholarship through the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Foundation.
Finally, I feel most proud about my volunteer service to the Wausau Free Clinic. Volunteering with the organization for more than five years in what began as an administrative role turned into a professional role with the clinic’s dispensary. In the fall of 2021, the Wausau Free Clinic moved into Wausau’s Community Partner’s Campus and allowed us the room to expand our prescription services. My role is director of medication services. This role includes oversight of our clinic dispensary, internal operations committee, strategic planning, dispensary volunteers, student shadowing, and pharmacy resident volunteers. Our 2024 year-end data consists of 1360 RXs, a plethora of OTC medications, over 400 unique underserved patients of central and greater Wisconsin, and a value exceeding $900,000 in RX and OTC medications and supplies.
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and connections that pharmacy has brought into my life—especially those that began with all of you. I’d love to hear how you’re doing and where your journey has taken you since graduation. Wishing you all continued success, both personally and professionally.
Beth Martin (BS ’90, MA ’03, PhD ’06): “After 30 years away from the community theater stage in Eau Claire (where I practiced pharmacy with Group Health of Eau Claire), I rekindled my love for acting and singing with the Verona Area Community Theater production of “Grease Sr.” In my role as ‘Sandy,’ I reminded myself about what changes as you age gracefully in the theater: It takes longer to memorize lines and the choreography needs to accommodate a more limited range of motion :). (Although I still did the splits in the cheer scene!) I’m looking forward to the next opportunity to be part of this supportive community of actors and crew.”
Lance Blanchette (BS ’80): “I’ve been a staff pharmacist at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, for 42 years. I specialise in intensive care medicine. I am semi retired. I spend most of my time between Palm Springs and San Diego.”
Eric Walters (BS ’74) “After 12 years in industry and 34 years teaching at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, I am retiring. I taught biochemistry and molecular biology in our Chicago Medical School for 20 years, and then participated in the establishment of our College of Pharmacy starting in 2010. I’ve been teaching medicinal chemistry and biochemistry to pharmacy students ever since. I served as associate dean for research in the College of Pharmacy from 2011-2021. You can see my lifelong obsession with ties on Instagram, @erictieguy.”
David Henning (BS ’67, MS ’69): “I still have my license, although I haven’t practiced since 2018. My granddaughter Kristin is finishing her second year in the Pharmacy program at the University of Washington. Pharmacy school has certainly changed since I was her age. My daughter Chelsea and her husband have taken in a foreign exchange student the past 3 years. Last year’s was a girl from Spain who was very strong in math and science. We talked about pharmacy a bit, and she let me know she is applying for Pharmacy school in Spain next year. She is going to visit in July, so I am going to see if she wants to tour the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy while she is in the area.”
