Eva Vivian, professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division, joined 28 healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, dentists, medical assistants, and a chiropractor for a one week medical and dental outreach in January in Cambodia. The team treated more than 2,919 patients and provided over 11,277 prescriptions. The medical services were offered in rice fields approximately 50 miles outside of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Malaria, dengue fever, HIV, all the variations of Hepatitis, Typhoid and Rabies are the most prevalent diseases requiring medical care.

Vivian’s research interest focuses on identifying disparities in the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, and other chronic diseases among ethnic minorities, particularly African American and Latino American patients and developing and implementing strategies to reduce and eliminate them. Recently, her research has sharpened its focus in response to heightened awareness of the great numbers of children and adolescents who are at special risk of diabetes.
