The objective of the FY20 contract between the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy, Social & Administrative Sciences Division (Principal Investigator James H Ford, II, PhD) was to continue to explore the role of the community pharmacy in addressing the opioid crisis in Wisconsin. The contract had four distinct goals:

  • Goal 1: Create maps of geospatial patterns of provider and pharmacy naltrexone, buprenorphine, and naloxone prescribing and dispensing in Wisconsin
  • Goal 2: Pilot test and evaluate the Injectable Naltrexone Best Practices in five community pharmacies
  • Goal 3: Develop educational materials for pharmacy-provided buprenorphine.
  • Goal 4: Pilot a partnership between criminal justice and community pharmacy to provide naltrexone injections

This research was featured in the School of Pharmacy News and the Badger Herald.
