Martha Maurer is an associate scientist for the Sonderegger Research Center for Improved Medication Outcomes. She has experience with project management, stakeholder engagement, qualitative and quantitative research methods, policy analysis, and grant/manuscript preparation. Throughout her career, Martha’s research has focused on examining policy and regulatory issues related to the use of opioid analgesics for pain management in the context of palliative care, both in the US and in low- and middle-income countries. Her goal is to support research to develop and inform interventions to improve medication safety and adherence, with a focus on underserved populations. Her social science training, coupled with her public health studies and extensive community-based stakeholder engagement experience, have instilled a passion for community-engaged research in the pharmacy field.
In 2018, Martha was involved in a project using policy surveillance methods to examine the content of laws and governmental policies governing chronic pain management and palliative care in all 50 states and Washington, DC. Since 2019, she has worked on a number of projects led by Dr. Chui related to improving opioid stewardship in a rural health system.
