PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency

Program Purpose

The UW–Madison School of Pharmacy’s PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program strives to develop transformative leaders in the field of community practice. To this end, graduates work alongside expert preceptors and academic mentors to develop competence in the following areas:

  1. Patient care
  2. Leadership and management
  3. Advancement of community-based practice
  4. Teaching, education, and dissemination of knowledge
  5. Self-evaluation and self-directed learning

History of the Program

The UWCPRP was established in 2003 in a collaborative effort by a group of independent community pharmacies involved in training community pharmacy residents and the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy. The program was created to advance innovative community-based pharmacy practice through the development of quality residency training programs designed to enhance the practice skills of today’s community pharmacist.

Duration

Residency is 12 consecutive months, full-time, beginning July 1 through June 30 of the following year.

Accreditation

Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program by ASHP/APhA. Re-accredited March 2018.
