Citations of Merit have been awarded annually since 1953 to distinguished alumni or friends of the School; only an honorary degree constitutes a higher honor than a citation. The 2016 Citation of Merit Award recipients included Janet Fritsch, RPh, BS ’87, Wayne K. Anderson, BS ‘62, MS ’64 (University of Manitoba), PhD ’68, William S. Mellon, BS ’69 (Northeastern University), PhD ’77 (The Ohio State University), Postdoctoral Training, ‘77-’79 Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Richard J. Bertz, BS ‘83, PhD ’95 (University of Pittsburgh). They were honored at a dinner held Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Carson Gulley Center on the UW-Madison campus.

In addition to the Citation Awards, the Pharmacy Alumni Association (PAA) recognizes outstanding alumni. An alumnus is honored for their contributions to pharmacy, society, professional organizations and the School of Pharmacy. The Young Alumnus of the Year Award is presented to an individual under the age of 40. These awards were presented at the PAA luncheon at the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin annual meeting in August. The 2016 honorees were David A. Zilz, Alumnus of the Year Kate L. Gainer Young Alumna of the Year.
