Anita Kashyap, a 2012 PharmD graduate and a clinical pharmacist at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Madison, Wis. was featured in a recent USA Today article highlighting the expanded role of pharmacists whose special training permits them to prescribe drugs, order lab tests, make referrals to specialists and do physical examinations. The ability to handle more of the patients’ chronic care needs frees physicians to concentrate on new patients and others with complex needs.
