In my own words by Angie Blasezyk, DPH-3 student

Who are the Lady PharmAssists? They are the multi-talented, all-star group of female student pharmacists who have taken their skills beyond the pharmacy straight to the basketball court. This driven group of women brings high-intensity energy and passion to UW intramural sports while representing the SOP. These women feel that living a healthy, active lifestyle is important to apply to their own lives and as a counseling topic to recommend to patients as well.

They went through the season undefeated until the final tournament in which they finished third overall. In a turn of unfortunate events during a tournament game, one Lady PharmAssists hit the ground with a broken ankle. Being well trained in management of injuries from Denise Pigarelli’s Over the Counter course, the rest of the team quickly jumped into action recommending RICE therapy (Rest Ice Compression Elevation). Despite being one girl down, the ladies remained focused and went on to win the game. The Lady PharmAssists were disappointed when they were eliminated from the tournament, but placed third overall, and had a successful season.

They were able to exercise, have fun, review course material, and for one player to learn firsthand what it is like to be a patient!
