Michelle Chui, assistant professor in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division, and Olufunmilola Odukoya, PhD graduate student working with Chui, have been awarded funding from the Community Pharmacy Foundation to investigate the causes, consequences and interventions to address e-prescribing errors in community pharmacies.
Their previous research identified that e-prescribing technology produced new and unanticipated errors that can result in unintended consequences. Chui and Odukoya will study how pharmacists identify and resolve medication errors that are electronically transmitted to the pharmacy, in order to identify ways to design and evaluate e-prescribing systems to ultimately improve safety and efficiency of patient care.
