The research contributions of 2013 PharmD graduates, Heather Hestekin and Tristan O’Driscoll has resulted in publication by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the BMC Medicine Journal.

Prevalence, risk factors and disability associated with fall-related injury in older adults in low- and middle-income countries: results from the WHO Study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) was published in June 2015.

While on their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) in 2013, Hestekin and O’Driscoll assisted with writing the paper and are included as authors. The work was undertaken as part of University of Wisconsin-Madison/World Health Organization (WHO) internships. SAGE is supported by the Division of Behavioral and Social Research of the US National Institute on Aging through Interagency Agreements with WHO.

Hestekin and O’Driscoll are completing Post Graduation Year 2 pharmacy residencies– Hestekin at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, Orange, Calif. and O’Driscoll at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Ill. O’Driscoll is currently an Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacist at Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Paul Kowal (BS’ 92), World Health Organization population researcher, Newcastle, Australia, serves as a preceptor for the international rotations in Australia.
