In July and August, Dr. Shiyanbola hosted a Dissemination Dinner for participants of the “African Americans’ Perception of Type II Diabetes” study in Madison and Milwaukee respectively.

August 11, 2017

The event was an avenue to personally thank focus group members for their contributions to our research and also provide them with findings of the study.  Dave Mott, Divison Chair, Social and Administrative Sciences provided the welcome address in Madison. Pam Bracey, Cultural Specialist North/Eastside Senior Coalition provided commentary on the impact of diabetes on the African American Community and importance for advocacy on the subject.  At the Milwaukee event, Gina Green-Harris Director, Milwaukee Outreach Program and Services Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute discussed the importance of diabetes disease management in African Americans.  Throughout the event, the participants shared testimonials of their time participating in the research.
