Tori Kowalkowski is a Client-Based Researcher for the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division. She has a bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison in Biology and is currently applying to medical school. Tori is profoundly experienced within the clinical setting, specifically emergency medicine. Her 3 years of experience ranges within the pre-hospital setting serving in urban and rural areas and in-hospital settings as an Emergency Department Technician. Tori has learned through patients the various socioeconomic factors that influence health such as educational attainment, financial security, and social support.

As a researcher in Dr. Chui’s SAMS Lab, within the Sonderegger Research Center for Improved Medication Outcomes (SRC), Tori is interested in conducting interdisciplinary research to develop interventions to advance public health and health equity. Specifically, identifying barriers in care and unsafe practices to advance health policy and management for future patients. Along with Dr. Chui’s SAMS Lab, Tori is working collaboratively with scientists, healthcare professionals, and graduate students to improve medication safety. Her targets include design methodology, data collection, and dissemination for client-based research projects.

In addition to research, Tori is a licensed Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and working within UW Health’s Level One Trauma Center and serves as a Crew Chief at a local EMS Department. Tori enjoys outdoor activities such as backpacking and running. She plans to complete her first IRONMAN in September 2024.
