A common question I receive is how to make a gift to the School of Pharmacy through an existing retirement plan. When an individual reaches the age of 70.5, a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is mandatory. This RMD counts towards an individual’s taxable income for the year, unless it is distributed directly from an IRA to a qualified non-profit charity such as the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy, through the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association. Choosing to make a gift through an RMD provides two-fold benefits—a tax savings for the individual and a difference for the future generation of Badgers at the School of Pharmacy.

If an RMD is of interest or you’d like to learn more, I encourage you to talk with your accountant, attorney, or retirement planning team for details. Then, give me a call (608) 381-3394 or email chris.natynski@supportuw.org and we can discuss where you would like to make an impact at the School.

Thank you and On, Wisconsin!
