This spring and summer the Division of Pharmacy Professional Development (DPPD) will be offering three new courses designed to meet the needs of today’s pharmaceutical industry professional. The courses are introduced below.

Successful scientists in the pharmaceutical industry are often called upon to manage others. However, the years of study that made them great scientists often did not include any instruction on how to be a good supervisor. The learning curve can be steep and this can lead to lost productivity and poor workplace dynamics. The DPPD is pleased to offer a new one day short course designed to make you a successful manager. Along with instruction, attendees will also role play in order to gain better insights into the employee/manager relationship and learn valuable tips that they will be able to apply immediately upon return to their job. This course will be offered July 12, 2016 at the Fluno center either as a pre-course option for Land O’Lakes attendees, or as a stand-alone management course.

Methods validation is a regulatory requirement that is the process of demonstrating to the FDA that analytical procedures are suitable for their intended use. It begins with the planned and systematic collection of validation data to support analytical procedures. Validation is performed so that product can be gotten safely out the door in an efficient manner with minimum complications. The process of transferring and validating an analytical method may seem simple at first glance, but if not done properly the transfer can be fraught with expensive delays. The course “Practical aspects of analytical method development, transfer, and validation” will be offered the week of May 16, 2016 in Madison at the Pyle Center and will give the learner a methods “toolbox” that they will be able to use after they return to work.

Focusing on quality in manufacturing will minimize cost and reduce waste. A strategic approach to quality improvement is vital for a successful project. Quality by Design (QbD) is one aspect of quality that now has FDA endorsement for shortening the drug development timeline. DPPD is pleased to offer a new course on quality in partnership with the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering Department of Engineering Professional Development (EPD). This short course will provide an overview of the quality process and give the learner a means to apply quality, quality standards, and metrics to their own projects. This course will be held the week of May 16, 2016 in Madison at the Pyle Center.
