Eva Vivian, associate professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division, is co-investigator of a P-50 grant from the National Cancer Institute that will advance treatments for smokers with diabetes.

“Engineering Effective Interventions for Tobacco Use: A Translational Laboratory” will incorporate three smoking cessation studies designed both to further treatments for smokers with diabetes who are ready to quit and to develop effective interventions for those not yet ready. All of the interventions will be delivered in real-world clinical settings in Wisconsin health systems. Collectively, the projects will treat over 1600 smokers and test 15 different interventions.

Michael Fiore, founder and director, and Tim Baker, associate director, of the University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention are principle investigators of the grant.
