Powell awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

C. Travis Powell, a chemistry graduate student, was selected to receive a 2010 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) to further his research on the crystallization of organic glasses under positive and negative pressures. The results will advance our knowledge of crystal growth and the development of amorphous drugs.

The prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship is open to first year graduate students, and is awarded based on outstanding abilities and accomplishments, as well as the potential to contribute to strengthening the vitality of the U.S. science and engineering enterprise. The award supports three years of graduate study with a monetary stipend.

Powell is a first year graduate student who studies in the laboratory of Lian Yu, professor in both Pharmaceutical Sciences Division and the Department of Chemistry.
