Pharmacy Operations and Technology Management (OTM)

This degree option is ideal for PharmD students who have an interest in pharmacy leadership, entrepreneurship, community pharmacy, health systems management, and the many ways technology can be used to improve patient care. Students completing this program will be highly sought after by post-graduate residency and fellowship programs in health care technology and operations, and will be uniquely positioned to serve in the pharmaceutical industry and within large health care corporations.

Partnered with the Wisconsin School of Business at UW‒Madison, our Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students study alongside MBA students.

The first of its kind in the country, the Pharmacy Operations and Technology Management (OTM) program provides PharmD students the opportunity to combine their extensive health care knowledge with MBA-level coursework for essential business training without adding additional time to degree. PharmD students complete the Wisconsin MBA OTM courses during the second and third years of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, which allows them to stay on track for graduation and distinguish themselves in the job market.

The 12-credit requirements include a class in project management and three electives based on your interests. Choose from:

• Managerial accounting
• Organizational change
• Health care operations
• Service operations
• Managing teams
• Negotiations
• Logistics and supply chain management

Prior to their first business course, students may participate in the yellow- and green-belt Six Sigma process improvement training provided through the Erdman Center. The workshops prepare participants to drive continuous improvement initiatives in their organization.
