Doctor of Pharmacy students wishing to pursue careers in public policy may want to enroll in our dual degree program, which combines a PharmD with a Master’s Degree of Public Health from the University of Wisconsin‒Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. The PharmD/MPH dual degree allows students to complete both degrees in five years.
This educational path combines the clinical and scientific coursework of the PharmD program with knowledge that focuses on the application of pharmaceutical care and public health principles. In addition to preparing graduates for a career as a pharmacist, it also leaves them with the skills to improve health outcomes for entire populations. See the many career possibilities in public health.
Dual degree holders are uniquely positioned to influence policies surrounding medication use, and to define practice and research standards in response to pressing health challenges (such as heart disease prevalence, for example, or the opioid epidemic).
