Board of Visitors Presentation – Essential Skills

October

28,

2016

It is important that pharmacy schools impart each graduate with the knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and attitudes necessary to participate in contemporary pharmacy practice and cutting-edge research. Many of these essential skills cannot be taught in the classroom or lab; they are developed through internships, participation in co-curricular activities, training, and mentorship. The lack of essential skills may limit post-graduation opportunities or require employers to spend valuable resources training a new graduate to meet workplace expectations.

We have invited members of our Board of Visitors to describe what they feel are the essential skills our graduates must have to be successful in a competitive, multi-cultural workplace.

The Board will provide recommendations on how we can develop the essential skills in our graduate and PharmD students based on their experiences in pharmacy practice/management, academia, industry, and start-up companies. We hope to learn what essential skills are most lacking in new employees and hear what suggestions they have to ensure our graduates are prepared and remain competitive for future careers in practice, health systems management, and research. The presentation format will be very similar to their spring discussion regarding the PharmD curriculum. We hope you are able to join us on this discussion and interacting with our BOV members.

All students, faculty, and staff are welcome – no RSVP required
