Graduate students committed to tackling challenges in growing areas of the pharmaceutical industry can apply for Pharmaceutical Sciences MS Merit Awards. These scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Applied Drug Development or Psychoactive Pharmaceutical Investigation who demonstrate a financial need and/or have a strong commitment to the School of Pharmacy Vision and Mission.
Awards
The scholarships in the Pharmaceutical Sciences MS Merit Awards are intended to not only alleviate the financial burden of pursuing and completing the Pharmaceutical Sciences master’s program but also increase the impact of the school’s commitment to our values.
Awards are made within several categories, and by completing the Pharmaceutical Sciences MS Merit Award application; applicants are automatically considered for the following merit awards: Optimizing Opportunity, Enabling Excellence, Supporting Success, Ken Sipsma Award.
- The Optimizing Opportunity Award is for high-achieving students facing obstacles in their educational journey and demonstrating a strong committment to the School of Pharmacy Vision and Mission.
- The Enabling Excellence Award is for high-achieving students facing significant financial hardship in the current school year that would otherwise impact their ability to continue enrollment.
- The Supporting Success Award is for students with outstanding academic performance in Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate work.
- The Ken Sipsma Award is for students who exemplify a positive commitment to lifelong learning and continuous growth.
Awards made range from $1,500 to $12,000 per semester.
We welcome and encourage scholarship applications from all eligible students.
Qualifications
The scholarships are available and awarded to high achieving students who are pursuing a Pharmaceutical Sciences MS in either Applied Drug Development or Psychoactive Pharmaceutical Investigation. Wisconsin residents and non-residents are eligible and encouraged to apply.
Current students must have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA from their master’s program coursework to be eligible for the scholarship.
Prospective students must complete an online graduate school application.
Both current and prospective students must also:
- Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and
- Re-apply for the Pharmaceutical Sciences MS Merit Awards for subsequent terms

Applicants must submit the online scholarship application for each semester they would like to be considered.
To complete an application:
- Visit the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH).
- Sign in with your NetID.
- Complete a brief general application.
- Based on responses to the general application, you will be provided with a list of scholarship opportunities that should include the Pharmaceutical Sciences MS Merit Award.
Online Scholarship Application
Applications will be reviewed and selected by the program’s Scholarship Committee, and the scholarship will be granted in partnership with staff from UW Admissions and the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Application and Award Timeline
Prospective and current students wishing to apply to the Pharmaceutical Sciences MS Merit Awards may submit their application by the application deadline for the term you are requesting. Applications submitted after the deadline may not receive full consideration.
Students who have not been accepted into the Pharmaceutical Sciences: Applied Drug Development or Psychoactive Pharmaceutical Sciences program must submit the full program application to the Graduate School to be eligible in addition to the scholarship application.
