Olayinka Shiyanbola, assistant professor in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division, was selected as a 2016 National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Health Disparities Research Institute Scholar.
The aim of the Health Disparities Research Institute is to provide participants with a broad overview of the leading issues facing minority health and health disparities and stimulate discussion of your proposed research project. The number of applicants is large and the competitive selection process is based on the individual’s interest in becoming a health disparities research scholar and their accomplishments to date. Shiyanbola will attend The Health Disparities Research Institute August 15-19, 2016 in Bethesda, Maryland.
Shiyanbola’s research interests include patient illness and treatment perceptions and their impact on medication adherence; medication use among underserved populations; utilization of pharmacy quality measures by patients. Additional research focuses on enhancing prescription warnings to improve patient understanding and medication safety.
