Pharmacy students have proactively sought opportunities to serve locally and nationally with the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy Student College of Clinical Pharmacy (SCCP) organization—a newly formed chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
Several students have been selected to serve on committees for the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Research Networks (PRNs). Those serving in 2015/2016 include:
- Heeje Jeon, DPH-3: Student Taskforce, Emergency Medicine PRN
- Jared Mills, DPH-4: Resident and Student Committee, Cardiology PRN.
- Courtney Putz, DPH-4: Communications and Social Media Committee, Cardiology PRN
- Katie Windschitl, DPH-2: Student Taskforce, Emergency Medicine PRN
- Paria Sanaty Zadeh, DPH-4: Student Committee, Ambulatory Care PRN
Jill Kolesar, professor (CHS) and Director, 3P Analytical Instrumentation Laboratory, UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), and co-leader of the Cancer Therapy Discovery and Development (CTD2) disease oriented working group was among school and community volunteers who supported the cancer research fundraiser.
SCCP members and Kickin’ it to Cancer were on hand at the recent Sophie’s Spaghetti Dinner benefitting the Jodie Lou Lung Cancer Foundation held at the American Legion Hall in Barneveld, Wis. Pharmacy students showcased their face painting skills, coordinated all the set-up and take down, served beverages to attendees, and sold raffle tickets.
The dinner, named after her daughter Sophie, is a major fundraiser for the Jodie Lou Lung Cancer Foundation. Jodie Lou started the foundation to support lung cancer research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. She lost her battle in 2008 at the age of 36. Since then, the event has raised more than $100,000, including an $18,000 donation presented at the event on November 14, 2015.
Pharmacy Practice Division faculty Jill Kosesar, professor (CHS), and Orly Vardeny, associate professor (CHS), serve as advisors to SCCP.
