Warren Rose, associate professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division, will address “Antibiotic Resistance: No Longer Just a Hospital Problem,” to an informal group at the Science on Tap-Minoqua series on Wednesday, May 6.

The speaker series is held the first Wednesday of every month at the Minocqua Brewing Company, Minocqua, Wis. and highlights University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers and the university’s impact more than 200 miles away from campus. The conversations draw standing room only crowds and have involved community members on topics ranging from carnivore conservation to climate change.

Speakers give presentations of 15 minutes or less, without a PowerPoint, which is followed by a question-and-answer session that often continues for more than an hour. Programs are live-streamed ad free at the Minocqua Public Library each month. Archived videos are commercial free.

Rose joined the School of Pharmacy in 2007 as an assistant professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division. His interests in Public Health are in infectious diseases, particularly antibiotic resistance development, prevention, and treatment.

He has dedicated his career to the exploration of challenging and clinically relevant infectious disease problems in healthcare. His research focuses on recognizing the potential complications of inappropriate initial therapy in treating complicated infections. Identifying situations for the appropriate use of combination therapy in antibiotic resistant infections is a primary goal of his work.
