Opioid overdose is a major public health concern in the United States. Naloxone education and distribution can decrease the risk of overdose deaths. The pharmacist scope of practice has been expanded in many jurisdictions to include dispensing of naloxone without a prescription. We continue to promote innovation in this area through support of novel mass-outreach approaches such as the “Naloxone Stand-Down Day” implemented at the Madison VA, as well as through train-the-trainer approaches to expand Naloxone academic detailing in regard to use of state standing orders.
