The Bugni Research Group aims to discover the next generation of agents to treat multi-drug resistant (MDR) infectious diseases with a focus on MDR-fungal and MDR-Gram negative bacterial pathogens. We develop methods to mine the metabolomes of marine bacteria for new molecules. We study new molecules using mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We evaluate molecules to understand how they work (mechanism of action) and their potential as drug leads.
