School welcomes Thorne to faculty

Robert Thorne, joins the School of Pharmacy as an assistant professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division on June 1. Thorne comes to Madison from the New York University School of Medicine, where he served on the faculty in the Department of Physiology and Neuroscience.

Thorne’s current research focuses on targeted drug delivery, transport processes and using biopharmaceutical products to treat neurodegenerative diseases. He holds a BS in chemical engineering (University of Washington) and a PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Minneapolis, Minn. (2002), where he studied nasal pathways for Central Nervous System delivery with an emphasis on protein tracers and neurotrophic factors.

He is an active member of AAPS, the Society for Neuroscience, and a founding member of the International Brain Barriers Society. Thorne will be contributing to the teaching team in the Drug Delivery core for both graduate and Doctor of Pharmacy students.
