School garners multi-discipline representation at global social pharmacy conference

Faculty and an alumnus from the Social and Administrative and Pharmacy Practice areas contributed expertise at the International Social Pharmacy Workshop 2016 (ISPW2016). Olayinka Shiyanbola, assistant professor in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division, received the Best Poster Presentation Award. “Determining Demand for Pharmacists,” was a well-attended session co-presented by Dave Kreling, professor in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division, and Jon Schommer, UW-Madison alumnus and currently Associate Department Head and Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Health System, University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Beth Martin, associate professor (CHS), in the Pharmacy Practice Division and Assistant Dean for Assessment, Teaching and Learning, and Tim Chen, University of Sydney, presented a workshop on “Engaging Community Partners and Older Adults in Pharmacy Practice Research and Services: Strategies, Results and Future Directions from Australia and the U.S.A.” Co-author Dave Mott, professor and chair, Social and Administrative Sciences, was unable to attend. The annual conference showcases research in the social science and pharmacy practice aspects of pharmacy and was held at the University of Aberdeen King’s College in Scotland in July. All abstracts for the ISPW2016 were published in the The International Journal of Pharmacy Practice (IJPP), a Medline-indexed, peer reviewed, international journal. It is one of the leading journals publishing health services research in the context of pharmacy, pharmaceutical care, medicines and medicines management.
