Hall and Josephson named 2016 Meriter Ganser Fellows

Alex Hall and Laura Josephson, juniors in the School’s Pharmacology-Toxicology Bachelor of Science program, have been named Meriter Hospital Ganser Fellows for summer 2016. Meriter’s Ganser Fellowship Program awards six 12-week summer fellowships annually to deserving college students who plan to enter the health care field and is designed to help students make informed career decisions. The Program was designed by a former Medical Director, Dr. John Nelson, and named in honor of the late Dr. William J. Ganser whose bequest, along with current contributors to the Meriter Foundation, Meriter Hospital and Meriter Medical Staff, make the program possible.

The experience that the Ganser Program offers to its fellows is unique. Students see numerous aspects of the hospital. The program provides each student a comprehensive overview of the operations of Meriter Health Services. To accomplish this goal, students meet with approximately 65-75 different departments/areas within and affiliated with the hospital. These meetings are designed to give overviews/tours of the departments and allow students to ask questions. In addition to the comprehensive overview, students are provided the opportunity to work in a specific area of the hospital, completing projects as assigned. Additional opportunities include attending a variety of hospital and medical staff meetings, viewing surgery and shadowing physicians and other health care professionals.

Hall is a premedical student from Elkorn, Wis. Josephson is a premedical student from Marshfield.
