Natasha Virrueta is a Doctor of Pharmacy student at UW–Madison. Before attending pharmacy school, she completed three years of prerequisite work at UW–Madison. She joined the lab in spring 2019. She joined because she was particularly interested in a collaborative research project that focused on diabetes medication adherence in veterans. She learned about this opportunity through shadowing another faculty member.

As she continues to pursue career opportunities, she is particularly interested in ambulatory care. This lab has provided her with hands-on experience interacting with patients and healthcare providers. She has improved her communication skills tremendously. Professor Shiyanbola has provided Natasha and other lab members with multiple opportunities to grow in the lab, such as encouraging students to present their work at pharmacy and diabetes conferences.
