The Peer Ambassador Support Program to Enhance Care (PASPEC)
The study aims of this UW ICTR funded grant were:
- To design a peer-led educational-behavioral intervention to change patient beliefs, self-efficacy, and medication adherence in African Americans (AAs) with type 2 diabetes and
- To pilot a component (i.e., 3 of 8 weekly sessions) of the educational-behavioral intervention and utilize patient feedback to examine the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention.
We conducted the study in two phases.
In Phase 1, we designed the intervention and utilized a patient advisory board as well as our stakeholders to revise the intervention.
In Phase 2, we piloted 3 sessions out of the 8-week intervention with AAs 30-65 years old who have type 2 diabetes, and then, conducted interviews with participants to explore the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention.
