Aaron Gilson, MS, MSSW, PhD

Senior Scientist/Health Policy Research Specialist

Aaron Gilson is a health policy research scientist for the Sonderegger Research Center, a program of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He has extensive experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, survey research, policy surveillance methods, and grant/manuscript preparation. Aaron’s goal is to inform rigorous research designs to develop and investigate pharmacy-based interventions to improve medication safety. His background in the social sciences, including his PhD in social welfare, established the foundation for his commitment to system-level change and sustainability of improvements.

Upon joining the School of Pharmacy, he led a project using policy surveillance methods to comprehensively examine the content of laws and governmental policies governing chronic pain management and palliative care in all 50 states and Washington, DC. Since 2019, Aaron has worked on a series of projects in the Chui SAMS Lab related to older adults’ over-the-counter medication use and safety in chain pharmacy organizations and healthcare system pharmacies.
