Join us for the “Psychedelic Pasts, Presents, & Futures” Borghesi-Mellon Workshop “What’s New/What’s Next in the History of Psychedelic Biomedicine?: Extending Conversations Backwards and Forwards” virtual roundtable on Monday, November 21 from 2:30-4 PM CST.  Register to attend the roundtable via Zoom: https://go.wisc.edu/t43x88.

Poster for History of Psychedelic Medicine

Lucas Richert will moderate a roundtable with a group of speakers working in the history of psychedelics: Andrew Jones, U. of Toronto; Taylor Dysart, U. of Pennsylvania; Jacob Green, UCLA; Andrea Ens, Purdue U.; and Jarrett Rose, RPI.

This event will occur on the coattails of the History of Science Society (HSS) 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago, where many of the speakers will have just presented on a range of projects from histories of psychedelic conversion therapy to The União do Vegetal and the Hoasca Project in the Brazilian Amazon. The roundtable conversation will be a chance for the scholars to think through intellectual and structural next steps for their research in light of the conversations at HSS, especially as it relates to building a transdisciplinary network of psychedelic researchers, developing relevant pedagogical materials, and integrating humanities perspectives into future psychedelic science research questions.

The Borghesi-Mellon program is sponsored by the UW Center of the Humanities: “Since 2000, the Center’s Workshops in the Humanities have provided an opportunity for students and faculty to work together outside of the classroom, in working groups centered on an interdisciplinary topic, broadly conceived, drawn from any period, field, or method of research in the humanities…the Workshops have led to conferences, books, teaching innovations, and the creation of long-term research centers and projects.”
