The Social & Administrative Sciences Division in the School of Pharmacy and the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy Present:

Lisa Haushofer, PhD

Food, Science, Consumption: Beyond the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906

Dr. Haushofer’s talk forms part of a wider campus conversation around Deborah Blum’s The Poison Squad, and she will explore the movement against food adulteration beyond Harvey Washington Wiley. In examining the broader context of nutrition science “in public” and some of the mechanisms of non-expert food evaluations, Dr. Haushofer will demonstrate how the food industry mobilized against expert evaluation.
