As Dean, I am fortunate to have a group of individuals that serve as external advisors—our School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors (BoV). These individuals offer their expertise and advice on matters such as long-range planning and alumni relations, establishing links between the practice and industrial sectors of pharmacy, forming an advocacy network for the School, and major fund-raising efforts.

The upcoming spring meeting for the BoV on April 21 reminds me of the significance of their service. Under the guidance of Board Chairman, David Zilz, the current BoV membership is more than 20 strong. Our members represent a wide range of pharmacy, hailing from large and international pharmaceutical companies, academia, retail and community pharmacies, national associations, and entrepreneurial driven firms. Six individuals who have served on the School’s BoV will conclude terms this spring. With their collective years of service totaling more than six decades, the expertise of Cindy Benning, Greeta Cherayil, Brian Jensen, Nita Pandit, Greg Schuenke, and Lynn Van Campen has not only helped shape the School today, but also influenced what it will be for decades to come. These individuals have engaged in discussions ranging from the building of Rennebohm Hall and the People and Programs philanthropy campaign to budget constraints, accreditation standards, and class size—just to name a few! Thank you for your service!

Highlights of the spring Board of Visitors meeting will include a presentation on the newly formed UW Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education by Dean Emerita and Center Director Jeanette Roberts and Joe Zorek, Assistant Professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division. Clinical Professor Art Schuna will address “Future Roles of Pharmacists in Prescribing,” and as part of an AAPS Distinguished Seminar, Board member Rob Wills will give a talk entitled “Innovation – My 40 Years in Pharmaceuticals.”

I am humbled by the prominence our Board members have attained in their respective fields. Their advice and counsel is greatly valued as we work together in fulfilling the mission and vision for the School of Pharmacy.
