Asthma research focuses on children and adults

Chris Sorkness, professor (CHS) in the Pharmacy Practice Division, received funding from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health, for a phase III clinical trial to advance asthma research.

The seven-year, multi-center cooperative agreement incorporates pediatric and adult trials studying different medications and treatment mechanisms for asthma control. Through the National Institutes of Health Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) in 2007, the UW established the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), which collaborates with numerous member sites across Wisconsin. This multidisciplinary network provides access to multiple populations and supports the recruitment needs of the trials. Sorkness is senior associate director of UW ICTR and co-PI of the study with Robert Lemanske, professor, UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.
