Wisconsin Society of Pharmacy Students from UW-Madison representing the Midyear Regional Meeting group achieved first place in the the 2nd Annual Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin Student Video Contest. The Olympic-themed video spotlighted Ben Heiser, Pharm.D., staff pharmacist, at Mallatt's Pharmacy on Monroe Street in Madison.
Drug solubility research merits journal publication
Mark Sacchetti, scientific director of the Zeeh Pharmaceutical Experiment Station, and Elham Nejati, former graduate student in Professor Sandro Mecozzi’s lab and now an alumna at Gilead Sciences, had their research on the solubility of drugs in complex lipid mixtures published in a recent edition of the AAPS PharmSciTech, a peer-reviewed online-only journal.
Thorne invited speaker at Gordon Research Conference
Robert Thorne, assistant professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division, presented a talk on diffusion 'barriers' in the Central Nervous System at the Gordon Research Conference - Barriers for the Central Nervous System.
Jeff Johnson, professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division, and Dr. Regina Murphy, professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, are Co-Principal Investigators of a five year R01 award from NIH that begins May 1, 2012.
Lian Yu, professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division, has been awarded continued support from the National Science Foundation for his research efforts studying the Surface Crystallization and Diffusion of Organic Glasses.

Olufunmilola Odukoya, graduate student studying with Michelle Chui, assistant professor in the Social and Administrative Sciences Division, received the Best Post-Graduate Poster Presentation Award for her work titled, "Human Factors Analysis of Patient Safety Concerns Associated with Electronic Prescribing in Pharmacy" at the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Annual meeting in March in New Orleans.
