About the Program: The program is especially designed for high school juniors and seniors interested in learning more about the School of Pharmacy degree programs. The Discovery Day will take place in Rennebohm Hall, the pharmacy building on the western edge of the UW-Madison campus. This day-long program will highlight the School of Pharmacy’s two degree programs: 1) the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, which prepares students for licensure as pharmacists; and 2) the B.S. Pharmacology/Toxicology program, an undergraduate degree, which provides a strong academic background for careers in the pharmaceutical industry or government agencies, for admission to a graduate program in the pharmaceutical/toxicological sciences, or for entry into professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, or law. The Discovery Day will also highlight the career diversity and flexibility which these degrees provide, and the excitement and challenges occurring in both pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences research. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet and talk with School of Pharmacy academic advisors, faculty, and students. Both a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided to all Discovery Day registrants.
Program Information: Registration will take place from 8:30-9:00 AM, at which time a light continental breakfast will be available. The morning program will begin at 9:00, and will consist of a general introduction to the School, presentations on the curriculum and career options in the Doctor of Pharmacy and B.S. Pharmacology/Toxicology programs; how to organize pre-pharmacy studies in one's initial post-secondary academic years. Lunch will be available in the building for registrants, served in three shifts between approximately 11:20 AM - 1:30 PM.
The afternoon program will consist of a series of breakout sessions. You will choose the sessions you wish to attend. Registrants will have the opportunity to attend a maximum of three break-out sessions during the afternoon. The program is expected to conclude at around 2:00 PM.
