Minutes of the first meeting of the
American Institute for the History of Pharmacy
- A meeting was called by Dr. Arthur Uhl on Wednesday, the 22nd of January, 1941 at 11 a.m. to discuss the possibility of forming a society for the promotion of the history of pharmacy. The meeting was held in the classroom for microscopy of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Wisconsin. Those present were: Dr. Uhl, Dr. Kremers, Dr. Busse, Dr. Parks, Dr. Urdang and Jennings Murphy.
- There was much discussion by those present on the possibilities of such an organization succeeding, the need for such an organization, the objects of such an organization, why it should start in Wisconsin, and many other details.
By the 2nd meeting (5 February 1941) the name for the organization was changed to "American Institute of the History of Pharmacy."

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the AIHP in January 1991, Founding-Member Louis Busse posed with University of Wisconsin Chancellor Donna Shalala and AIHP Director Greg Higby in front of the plaque that marks the establishment of the Institute (placed in the entryway to Chamberlin Hall).
